What is the Influence in Calibration Result Caused by CMM Probe Inspection?

Probe system is a key component of coordinate measuring machine (CMM), which is mainly used for measuring workpiece surface. It is closely related to the working efficiency and accuracy of CMM. Without an advanced measuring probe, the CMM has no outstanding function.

The probe calibration of CMM has two main purposes: one is to obtain the compensated diameter of the ruby probe, and the other is to establish the relationship between the probe of different angles accurately. Probe calibration accuracy directly affects calibration accuracy. In the probe calibration, CMM surveyors should pay attention to the following problems:

1. Choose the appropriate measuring stylusand extension rod, generally use 4 * 30 measuring stylus with no extension rod. Install the measuring stylus firmly and wipe the measuring stylus and ball with anhydrous alcohol.

2. After the probe calibration, the probe calibration accuracy verification should be carried out. The deviation is known by the verification procedure or software, and a complete verification is made up of a ring gauge and a measuring block not exceeding 30mm.

3. The measurement speed of probe calibration should be consistent with that of precision calibration. Especially for those that are used for a long time or frequently, the compensation diameter and the ruby ball diameter will be different when the measurement speed of the probe is calibrated.

4. If the probe calibration results find that the shape error is large, it should be considered whether it is caused by the following reasons: First, the probe or the sphere is not cleaned, it should be cleaned and then checked; Second, the probe is too old, should be replaced; Third, the straightness of the guide rail has a large change, should be checked by the precision of displacement calibration; Fourth, air cushion blockage, should be cleaned and adjusted in time. If the diameter is found to be abnormal, it should be considered whether it is not wiped clean or the sphere diameter input is normal.
